Introducing the Asus ROG Phone 9 and 9 Pro — you can play even on the back

The Asus ROG Phone 9 and ROG Phone 9 Pro are powered by Snapdragon 8 Elite, have a maximum refresh rate of 185 Hz, and you can play not only on the screen.

The smartphones have up to 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM (9600 Mbps) and up to 512 GB of UFS 4.0 storage in the regular model and up to 24 GB and 1 TB in the Pro. According to Asus, they are 45% more productive and 40% better in graphics rendering and NPU performance than their predecessors Asus ROG Phone 8.

The improved cooling system now has a 57% larger graphite coating that makes smartphones cooler for several days, and the active cooler has been improved as well. The included AeroCase and the optional Chill Case (which passively cools the device with an evaporation chamber) have the «Audio Redirection» function. They are shaped so that the sound from the bottom speaker is directed forward. In combination with the front top speaker, the owner gets better stereo sound.

Moreover, the AeroActive Cooler X Pro accessory has a subwoofer that allows you to get 2.1 sound (the function was in AeroActive Cooler 7, but not in the previous year’s generation). The cooler has two hardware buttons that connect to AirTriggers on the phone itself. Cooling efficiency is improved thanks to larger fan blades (+12.5%) and more thermal compound, which improves cooling by 29%.

Just like their predecessors in the series last year, the Asus ROG Phone 9 and 9 Pro have 6.78″ AMOLED displays with FHD+ (1080 x 2400) resolution, 1600 nits brightness in high brightness mode, 2500 nits at peak, and 107% DCI-P3 color gamut. The upgrade includes an available refresh rate of 185 Hz, up from 165 Hz previously. The mode will only work in some games.

There is another display on board. Both models now have AniMe Vision — a network of LEDs that can be used to customize the look. The ROG Phone 9 has 85 LEDs (the previous version had only four), while the ROG Phone 9 Pro has 648 LEDs — this is almost twice as many as the 8 Pro (341 LEDs).

AniMe Vision on Pro has enough resolution to display text in Chinese and Japanese. instead, you can upload a GIF to add animation. There is also a more interesting feature — games. Snake, Invaders, and two other games are available on the back LED panel, which can be controlled with AirTriggers.

Both phones use a 50 MP main camera based on a 1/1.56″ sensor. Sony Lytia 700. Stabilization has been improved, now correcting +/-5° instead of +/-3°. Asus ROG Phone 9 Pro has a 3x 32 MP 1/3″ telephoto lens. The mainstream model has only a 5 MP macro lens, unlike its predecessor. Both also have a 13MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 32MP selfie camera.

Asus ROG Phone 9 has a 3.5 mm headphone jack. They support Dirac Virtuo high-resolution audio technology. There is Bluetooth aptX Lossless, certification for Hi-Res Audio and Hi-Res Audio Wireless.
