As we already know, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim will be a very thin smartphone. It is about 1.3 mm thinner than the standard Galaxy S25. At the thickest point where the cameras protrude, it will be about the same thickness as the Galaxy S25 Ultra at the thinnest point of the body. However, you will have to pay for the small thickness with something else, agreeing to compromises. In this case, you will have to pay with battery life.
According to Digital Chat Station on Weibo, the Galaxy S25 Slim smartphone will have a battery capacity of 3000 to 4000 mAh, give or take. Moreover, the battery capacity of another upcoming «slim flagship» ─ Apple iPhone 17 Air ─ will be in the same range. In the case of the iPhone 17 Air, the compromise will be even greater, as one of the camera modules was also cut for compactness.
Such a battery capacity in «thin flagships» may disappoint brand fans. A 5000 mAh battery capacity has already become typical for modern smartphones, and the latest models offer 6000 mAh and even more.
This can be partly explained by different battery technologies. Unlike their Chinese competitors, none of the above companies has started using the new Silicon-Carbon technology, which provides a higher battery density.
So, in a world where Chinese mid-range smartphones will soon be equipped with 7500 mAh batteries, the much more expensive iPhone 17 Air and Galaxy S25 Slim will have to make do with much smaller batteries. Due to the smaller battery and thinner body, these smartphones may also not perform as well and have problems with overheating. At least, the Galaxy S25 Slim prototype recently showed not the best results in Geekbench.
Moreover, several Chinese smartphone manufacturers are apparently considering launching their own slim models, all of which will have batteries with a capacity of at least 5000 mAh, which users are used to. This will further increase competition in the «thin» segment.
