Benedict Cumberbatch in an interview with Variety discussed the role his character, Doctor Strange, will play in future Marvel projects, particularly in the renewed “Avengers”.
Thus, the actor refuted rumors about appearing in “Avengers: Judgment Day,” noting that Doctor Strange “does not fit with that part of the story”.
“Is this a spoiler? Damn it,” joked Cumberbatch, but at the same time announced a “central place” for the character in the next movie “Avengers: Secret Wars”.
The actor also hinted at a potential third “Doctor Strange”.
“Marvel is open to discussing where we are heading next,” says the actor. “Who do you want to write and play next? Which part of the comics do you want to explore to develop Strange? He’s a very multifaceted character. Complex, contradictory, restless person who has extraordinary abilities, so there are interesting things to work on.”
“Avengers: Judgment Day” and “Avengers: Secret Wars” are expected to conclude the saga about the Marvel multiverse, while also bringing back many beloved characters and actors with Robert Downey Jr. at the forefront—this time, however, he will not play Iron Man, but Doctor Doom.
The first film is expected in May 2026, while the second will debut exactly a year after that. Rumors also suggest that characters from the future “Thunderbolts” and “Fantastic Four,” Chris Evans as Nomad, as well as Tom Holland.
Additionally, insiders reported that Marvel is considering bringing Gwyneth Paltrow back as Pepper Potts and is negotiating with Ana de Armas about a role in “Avengers: Judgment Day”. Meanwhile, Josh Brolin has stated that he is ready to reprise the role of Thanos if Marvel proposes “the right story”.
