NVIDIA RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 graphics cards will go on sale this week. Desperate buyers are already lining up in tents as shortages are expected.
The tents are set up outside the American Micro Center store in Tustin, California. About the store’s makeshift camp reported on Reddit. Judging by the photos, only two tents have been set up, but there are still two days until the release.
More campers are likely to appear, as several stores have recently confirmed very limited batches of new video cards, literally one-offs. So at the start of the RTX 5090 there may be more excitement than has ever accompanied the Apple iPhone.
This kind of «rest» near the Micro Center is a common occurrence when new graphics cards are released. Tent camps could be seen at the beginning of the RTX 30xx and RTX 40xx sales. In 2020, there was also a shortage of RTX 30xx at launch due to the pandemic.
Buyers are eager to be the first to get to the store to avoid the actions of speculators who buy up and resell the devices at a higher price. Given the current situation, the NVIDIA RTX 5090 may be difficult to get even through them. Speculators are already trying to offer RTX 5090s for two to three times the recommended price by selling «slots», which supposedly give guaranteed access to buy RTX 5090s at launch.
The RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 graphics cards will be officially released on January 30 at a recommended price of $1999 and $999 respectively RTX 5090 reviews have already been publishedand RTX 5080 reviews should appear on January 29. The RTX 5070 will arrive later in February, and the 5070 Ti is rumored to be available on February 20.
