Director Luca Guadagnino is in final negotiations for the film «American Psycho». It will not be a remake of the Christian Bale film, but a new adaptation of the book.
Luca Guadagnino will interpret Bret Easton Ellis’s book «American Psycho» from a screenplay by Scott Z. Burns. The previous 2000 film adaptation directed by Mary Herron featured Willem Dafoe, Jared Leto, Josh Lucas and others in addition to Christian Bale.
Frenesy Films will produce «American Psycho» for Lionsgate, with Sam Pressman, son of Edward R. Pressman, the producer of the first film, serving as executive producer with his company Pressman Film.
«We are thrilled to add another elite director to our upcoming slate. Luca — is a brilliant artist and the perfect visionary to create an entirely new interpretation of this powerful classic IP,» said Lionsgate Chairman Adam Fogelson.
Guadagnino’s last film «Rivals» starring Zendaya, Mike Feist and Josh O’Connor was a box office success. Another one his film this year, «Queer» with Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey, will be released on November 27.
Ellis’s novel was groundbreaking and controversial when it was published in 1991. It not only depicted the life of an iconic Manhattan investment banker turned serial killer, but also paid incredible attention to the details of the world and scenes of violence, which led to censorship in several countries. The film with Christian Bale became a cult favorite and spawned memes.
