New «Supergirl» by DC — first look at Millie Alcock as Kara Zor-El

Co-chair of DC Studios James Gunn marked the start of filming the movie “Supergirl,” by posting an offscreen shot with Milly Alcock, who will play Kara Zor-El.

“Thrilled to see Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden cameras roll on ‘Supergirl’ with Craig Gillespie leading and the phenomenal Milly Alcock as our Kara Zor-El,” wrote Gunn on social network X. “Craig brings an incredible sensibility to this story, and Milly is the embodiment of ideas by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Nogueira.”

The upcoming film “Supergirl” by DC is based on the 2022 comic series “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” written by Tom King and illustrated by Bilquis Evely. Screenwriter Ana Nogueira (“The Vampire Diaries”) adapted the comic for the big screen, and Craig Gillespie (“Cruella”) served as the director.

In the comics, Supergirl (also known as Kara Zor-El) is Superman’s cousin. On screen in recent years, the character was portrayed by Melissa Benoist in the CBS and CW series “Supergirl” (which lasted six seasons) and Sasha Calle in the 2023 feature film “The Flash.”

The main villain in Tom King’s creation is Krem of Yellow Hill, who kills the young alien’s father. Supergirl and warrior Nolle travel the galaxy to hunt down Krem and avenge the cold-blooded murder.

Alcock is best known for her role as young Rhaenyra Targaryen in the series “House of the Dragon,” and incidentally, was the first candidate for “Supergirl” that Gunn brought to show his colleague Peter Safran. Nolle in the movie is played by “The Three-Body Problem” star Eve Ridley, while Matthias Schoenaerts (“Rust and Bone”) took on the role of Krem. Kara’s parents are portrayed on screen by David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham.

We remind you that the new “Superman” with David Corenswet will debut in Ukrainian cinemas this summer — July 10. In December, DC showed the first teaser trailer for the film, which collected a record 250 million views for DC and Warner Bros. in one day, and although it did not reveal the main storyline, it allowed a better look at the revamped characters: Superman himself, Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan), Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult), and others.
