Yesterday at the Super Bowl, Marvel unveiled a new look at the «Thunderbolts» — movie, which is supposed to be the «biggest action» movie the studio offers in the fifth phase of the cinematic universe (although Ukrainians will probably be slightly spoiled for choice the presence of Russian superheroes).
In the new trailer, the Thunderbolts are positioned as a kind of anti-heroic replacement for the Avengers, who this time have to save the world (in fact, a version «Suicide Squad» DC in Marvel’s vision).
«Let’s face it. No Avengers are going to save us. Who’s going to protect American citizens now?”» Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s character, Countess Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, says in the courtroom, and later Elena Belova’s Florence Pugh adds: «Well, we can’t fly. So what? We punch faces and shoot?».
In addition to Pugh and Louis-Dreyfus, the main roles in «Thunderbirds» are played by Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes), David Harbour (Red Mist), Wyatt Russell (John Walker), Hannah John-Kamen (Ghost) and others.
«Caught in a deadly trap set by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, these outcasts embark on a dangerous mission that will force them to confront the darkest shadows of their own past. Will this chaotic team fall apart, or will they find redemption and unite into something greater before it’s too late?», — from the official synopsis.
Interestingly, the new trailer confirms the trend of the previous ones and hardly shows Antonia Draikova / The Watcher, played by Ukrainian actress Olga Kurylenko — assume that the character will not live long in the movieor it will get a new incarnation.
Kurylenko’s character — is an antagonist who, after being damaged by the Black Widow, was turned into a killer cyborg by her father, General Drake. Fans were expecting Antonia to get more development and an interesting storyline in «Thunderbolts», but nothing in the trailers hints at this (though maybe Marvel is preparing a surprise?).
The film was directed by Jake Schreyer («Robot and Frank») and produced by Kevin Feige and Scarlett Johansson. «Thunderbirds» will be released in Ukraine on May 1, 2025.
