Pixel 6 is in trouble again: some «smartphones are dead» after updating to Android 15

Some Pixel 6 owners report that their smartphones — «are completely dead» after receiving Android 15.

Since release of Android 15 for Pixel phones, almost a week has passed, but error messages started appearing almost immediately. As noted by Android Police, the update has effectively rendered Pixel 6 devices completely unusable, citing user posts on Reddit.

Two owners noted that the phones were locked after enabling the Private Space feature and described their phones as «completely dead» — typical troubleshooting methods such as holding the power and volume down buttons or connecting to a computer do not work.

  • «Just providing instructions for anyone with a Pixel 6. Do not enable Private Space if you are upgrading to Android 15. My Pixel 6 is locked. I can’t turn on the phone or restart it using the methods provided by Google. It’s completely dead», — wrote a user with the nickname GegoByte.
  • «I updated my Pixel 6 and now it’s completely dead. I advise you to wait to update to Android 15. The battery is not bloated, the capacity is 91%… Unfortunately, my warranty expired 2 years ago», — the user added Homer_95.

Website PhoneArena notes that similar reports appeared a year ago after the update to Android 14. However, it was only an error with file storage — in fact, after the update, the available storage was significantly reduced, and smartphones reported «lack of memory on the device», preventing access to files or photos.

Presented in 2021 Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro although initially praised for their design and special Tensor chip, quickly gained a reputation as error-prone devices: there were problems with unplanned reboot, а also with Wi-Fi (there were reports of yellowing of branded covers and getting Android 12 instead of Android 13but that’s another story). Last year in July, Trading Platform analysts reported that 36% of Google smartphone owners are considering switching to another brand due to current problems.
