Canadian rapper Drake fell victim to hackers who used his account on the social network X (formerly known as Twitter) to promote a scam meme-coin based on the Solana blockchain. The fraudulent token caught the attention of some of his 39 million followers and managed to reach a trading volume of $5 million before the scam became apparent.
The incident occurred overnight on December 14 to 15. Cybercriminals gained access to Drake’s account and posted messages promoting the ANITA token. The name of the token refers to a fictional character created by Drake, Anita Max Wynn, as a humorous reflection of his passion for gambling (hinting at the phrase “I need a max win”).
The posts on the star’s page also claimed that the meme-coin was created in partnership with Stake, a platform for cryptocurrency betting, which Drake frequently uses. This scheme looked realistic, as it also played off the Anita Max Wynn Tour, planned in Australia and New Zealand in 2025.
According to DexScreener, the meme-coin managed to reach a $5 million trading volume. However, the fraudulent posts were later removed.
Drake is not the only one who has suffered from attacks on social networks. A few weeks before this, hackers broke into the accounts of celebrities such as Cardi B, Doja Cat, and Metallica, as well as the official account of the Cardano Foundation.
