Retailers are raffling off «the right to buy» NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 in lotteries due to shortages

Retailers have started implementing lottery systems to sell NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 and RTX 5080, given the potential shortage of graphics cards.

Thus, the Japanese store Nagoya Osu, as reported by wccftech, is already distributing lottery tickets for the first batch of RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 — and here we are talking about the raffle «the right to purchase», for which you will have to pay the full amount after winning.

This is probably the first time that such a serious shortage of a new generation of GPUs is expected on launch day. A number of previous reports have written about the potential shortage (In particular, NVIDIA itself has officially confirmed this), hinting that most users will not be able to buy video cards at all, and buying at the manufacturer’s recommended price is out of the question.

Nagoya Osu store account published an infographic that lists the conditions for purchasing RTX 5090 or RTX 5080:

  • The store will announce the quantity of goods in stock after 23:00 on January 30
  • Video card sales will start on January 31 at 11:00 a.m
  • Users who get in line at 10:20 will receive lottery tickets
  • After the winners are announced, they will be able to choose one video card of their choice

Meanwhile, other buyers do not wait for lotteries and set up tents right next to shops.

Some media outlets have speculated that NVIDIA creates an artificial deficit but no matter what he has already led to inflated prices in some regions.

We would like to remind you that yesterday the first reviews of the RTX 5080 graphics card were published:
