Rockstar has bought GTA Trilogy developers and turned Video Games Deluxe into its Australian branch

Rockstar has officially acquired the developers of GTA Trilogy — but not the ones who received a flurry of criticism for the re-release problems.

The publisher acquired Video Games Deluxe, and now it has a new name — Rockstar Australia. The studio corrected errors in the GTA re-release, the previous developers were Grove Street Games. Accordingly, VDG is not responsible for a flurry of criticism over GTA Trilogy bugs. The developers helped to port GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition to iOS, Android, and Netflix subscribers. The collaboration between Rockstar and Video Games Deluxe began more than ten years ago. In particular, the studio worked on the re-release of detective action game L.A. Noire on console and L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files.

«After working together closely over many years, we are excited to have Video Games Deluxe join the team as Rockstar Australia» says Jennifer Kolbe, Head of Publishing at Rockstar Games.

The founder of Video Games Deluxe also commented on the «new chapter» in the studio’s history.

«It’s been an honor to work closely with Rockstar Games this past decade. We are thrilled to be a part of Rockstar Games and to continue our efforts to make the best games possible» says Brendan McNamara.

Meanwhile, Rockstar is focused on developing GTA 6, which may be released in 2026. It is not yet known what Rockstar Australia will be working on. It is likely that the developers will help with additional content, updates, or perhaps even VR projects for Rockstar.

A former Rockstar developer recently hinted that GTA 6 will not be much different from GTA 5. Although the publisher’s cooperation with the creators of Roblox and Fortnite shows that GTA 6 will be much more flexible with mods, than the previous installment. Players are being prepared for a large-scale game that has already cost about $2 billion.
