RTX 5090 shortage: MSI postpones delivery until February 6, NVIDIA confirms shortage

MSI has confirmed on its official Discord that it will not be shipping the NVIDIA RTX 5090 on January 30. Only pre-orders will be available on the day of the US launch.

The company will allow ordering RTX 5090, but only from previously confirmed stocks. The ordered graphics cards will be delivered to customers in a week. At the same time, RTX 5080s will start shipping on the day of release. The company representative confirmed that the RTX 5090 will be available from other sellers, and the announcement applies only to the official US store.

«We will allow pre-orders for the RTX 5090 on January 30 at 6:00 a.m. PST with a February 6 delivery date. The RTX 5080 will be available for purchase on January 30 at 6am PST, with a delivery date of January 30. Pre-orders for the RTX 5090 will open on January 30 at 6:00 a.m. PST with a February 6» shipping date.

It is known that companies that assemble gaming PCs also will not receive MSI RTX 5090 cards until February 6.

Earlier, NVIDIA officially confirmed scarcity RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 at the start of sales. The statement refers to the company’s efforts to secure new daily deliveries:

However, the VideoCardz website directly suspects NVIDIA of creating an artificial shortage: «What they describe as «significant demand» is a simple result of limited supply on the chosen launch day. The sales embargo is completely under NVIDIA’s control, no one is stopping the company from postponing the launch by two days».

NVIDIA’s supply of GPUs does not meet demand immediately — graphics cards still need to be assembled. This is hampered by the lower utilization of assembly lines during the long Chinese New Year celebrations. NVIDIA graphics cards have faced shortages at launch before, but this time VideoCardz expecting «to launch is even more limited than usual».
