Konami has finally shown a new trailer for Silent Hill f, the first main installment of the series in more than 10 years.
The story is set in Japan in the 1960s, and the game is already claiming to be one of the most eerie in the history of the franchise. The main character will be a schoolgirl, Hinako Shimizu, from Ebisugaoka. At first, we see the girl surrounded by friends, but suddenly the scenes are interrupted by those where the city is shrouded in fog and wrapped in ominous red flowers.
The schoolgirl is trying to escape from an unknown horror, facing monsters that Silent Hill has not yet had. Previously, the game series was associated with rusty nurses and monsters from people’s fears. But now Silent Hill f is betting on something new — decomposition, infection, and bizarre flower mutations. It looks like this time the horrors will literally «bloom».
The heroine’s body is literally consumed by mysterious red vines that sprout through her flesh, which looks quite disgusting. The atmosphere is depressing, and it seems like the project will raise issues of gender discrimination, bullying, violence, and drug-induced hallucinations.
The story of Silent Hill f was written by Ryukishi07, who was a screenwriter a number of eerie Japanese visual novels. His ideas are famous for their psychological horror, paranoid atmosphere, and stories that push characters (and players) to the limit. The writer himself was so dedicated to this work that he said:
«I’ve poured all my efforts into this story, so much so that I don’t think I would mind if it was the last thing I ever wrote», — says Ryukishi07.
This phrase hints that the story will be not just scary, but deeply tragic. If you’re familiar with Ryukishi07’s work, you know that you should expect not just screenshots, but rather an oppressive atmosphere. It is obvious that Silent Hill f will be something special – a new setting, unique aesthetics, and a screenwriter who has created some of the most eerie stories in Japanese culture.
However, the Silent Hill series is famous not only for its hideous monsters or creepy story, but also for its atmospheric music. The soundtrack is once again composed by the legendary Akira Yamaoka, the composer of the game’s classic parts. The game is also created by Neobards Entertainment, a team of veterans who previously worked for Konami and Capcom.
Silent Hill f will be released on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. The release date is not yet known, but you can add the game to your wish list on Steam and Epic Games Store.
