Sony abandons PSN for some PC games, but offers sign-up bonuses

Sony has announced that players will no longer need to sign in to a PlayStation Network account to play four of its single-player games on PC: Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 (out today), The Last of Us Part II Remastered (out April 3), God of War Ragnarök, and Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered.

However, Sony will still encourage players to log in with a PSN account while playing these games. To do this, the company will «soon» add «unlocking game content» such as outfits and resources:

  • Marvel’s Spider-Man 2: early access to the Spider-Man 2099 Black Suit and Miles Morales 2099 Suit costumes;
  • The Last of Us Part II Remastered+50 points to activate bonus features and unlock additional features; Jordan’s jacket from Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet as a skin for Ellie;
  • God of War Ragnarök: access to the set «Black Bear Armor» for Kratos in the first chest «Lost Items» in the Interregnum (previously available only at launch «New Game+») and a set of resources (500 silver and 250 experience);
  • Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered: access to Nora Valiant clothing.

Sony also claims that using a PSN account gives players benefits such as «trophies and» friend management.

Sony’s requirement of a PSN account for some of its PC games has not been popular. The backlash against this requirement for Helldivers 2 forced Sony to reverse this decision after the game was inundated with negative reviews on Steam.
