Sony PlayStation 6 processors will appear in 2026 — AMD is preparing UDNA architecture

According to an insider, AMD is preparing to introduce a UDNA gaming graphics chip. Processors for the Sony PlayStation 6 based on it will go into production in less than two years.

According to a trusted informant, Zhangzhonghao of ChiphellAMD is preparing to introduce UDNA gaming GPUs no earlier than the second quarter of 2026. These may be next-generation Radeon graphics cards that will not focus on the enthusiast segment either. It has already been confirmed that the RDNA4 architecture is focused on more affordable segments.

However, there will be no RDNA5 architecture — UDNA will be introduced instead. AMD is returning to a unified architecture similar to the popular Vega. A unified architecture can simplify development, but it is unclear how this will affect different market segments, as they require different functionality. Here are specific insight points:

  • There will be no RDNA5, after RDNA4, UDNA will come out
  • The MI400 and RX9000 processors will use UDNA with a GCN (Vega)-like ALU design
  • Mass production of UDNA gaming chips is scheduled for the second quarter of 2026
  • Sony’s PS6 will use UDNA, and the CPU will be ZEN4 or ZEN5, yet to be determined
  • Sony’s portable console will also use AMD chips
  • Microsoft’s portable console is choosing between Qualcomm and AMD, but it’s not certain
  • This information comes from the supply chain, characteristics and performance are unknown

Despite some uncertainty, it is safe to say that Sony will continue to use AMD chips. The situation with Microsoft consoles is more complicated, given the company’s cooperation with Qualcomm. NVIDIA, which is rumored to be a rumored supplier, has not yet said anything, prepares its own central processing unit (with powerful graphics, of course).
