Hazelight is tearing up the charts — Split Fiction has become the second best-selling game on Steam. The game sold over 1 million copies in just 48 hours.
Thanks to such a quick success, the project became the fastest-selling in the studio. The previous record of 1 million copies belonged to It Takes Two. But this cooperative hit took almost a month to reach the same mark. Amid the success of the game, the developers thanked the players.
«The love you all show for our game is incredible! Everyone here at Hazelight is extremely happy — and we can’t stop enjoying your wonderful response!» — writes the studio in Bluesky.
On Steam, the number of simultaneous players reached 254,756 on the first day of release. This is more than in the studio’s previous games — It Takes Two (71,039) and A Way Out (8,582). In addition, the game was rated «overwhelmingly positive» on Steam.
The response to Split Fiction began to be impressive even when the game received the highest rating of, 2025 from critics. She was able to get around even Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 and Monster Hunter Wilds. In addition, the real number of players can exceed 1 million, as thanks to the Friend’s Pass system, each owner can invite a friend to join their game for free.
Previous Hazelight games have occupied a niche that doesn’t have many large projects, making them the kings of story-based co-op. It Takes Two was released in 2021, received «Game of the Year» at The Game Awards and later sold 23 million copies. Now, Split Fiction has every chance to surpass this result. It started stronger than other projects of the studio, and its cooperative gameplay is conquering streaming platforms.
Players and critics predicted that Split Fiction could become not only Hazelight’s most successful project, but also one of the most popular cooperative games of recent years.
