Ryan Gosling is negotiating a role in the new “Star Wars” film, which will be directed by Shawn Levy (“Deadpool and Wolverine”). There are no plot details yet, however, filming is tentatively scheduled for fall, notes THR.
Gosling is best known for his work in the films “La La Land,” “The Notebook,” and “Barbie” by Greta Gerwig. Last year, the actor debuted in the action movie “The Fall Guy” and starred in the sci-fi film “Project ‘Rejoice, Mary’.”
In 2024, Levy made a splash with the blockbuster “Deadpool and Wolverine”, but will remain “in the embrace” of Disney, moving from Marvel to work on a Lucasfilm project. The studio, which Disney acquired in 2012, hopes Levy will “bring the necessary energy to the franchise,” which is currently facing certain difficulties.
Like James Mangold’s project, Shawn Levy’s film will be a separate part of the franchise and will not be related to the Skywalker saga. The director, along with screenwriter Jonathan Tropper (“Project Adam”), has been working on the “Star Wars” film for the last two years, but there have not been any significant updates yet.
Regarding Mangold’s film tentatively titled “Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi,” the director previously noted that its events will take place 25,000 years before “The Phantom Menace” from 1999, and the plot will focus on “the origins of the Force and how it was understood and used.”
Also in development at Lucasfilm is “Star Wars: The New Jedi Order” starring Daisy Ridley. The project has already seen three screenwriters leave, including Steven Knight (“Peaky Blinders”); there have also been rumors about replacing Charmaine Obey-Chinoy as director, but there has been no official confirmation yet.
