Netflix continues to develop the universe based on the «Chronicles of Narnia» novels and has already invited Daniel Craig to play one of the main antagonists.
The streaming giant obtained the rights to adapt the legendary books by C.S. Lewis in 2018. Therefore, the creators are now actively looking for actors for the first film, which will be directed by Greta Gerwig («Barbie», «Lady Bird»). And among the potential stars is Daniel Craig.
There is no official information yet on who Craig will play. But it is possible that he will play the role of Uncle Andrew Catterley, a cunning alchemist who accidentally discovered the way to Narnia in «The Wizard’s Nephew». In the novel, Ketterly experiments with magic rings that can transport people to other worlds, and through them, the main characters Digory and Polly end up in Narnia. The actor has not yet accepted the offer, but the fact of the offer hints that Netflix is betting on big stars to relaunch the franchise.
If the deal does go through, it won’t be Craig’s first Netflix project. Previously, the actor became the face of the «Knives to the Head» franchise, where he played detective Benoit Blanc. This is the third movie in the series, «Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery», is coming out later this year.
Before that, the casting lists mentioned singer Charlie XCX, who can play the White Witch. Also, fans are waiting for news about Saoirse Ronan, who played Lady Bird McPherson in the project Gervase «Lady Bird». Ronan could become a part of this world. It is known that Louis Partridge was the first actor to join the film, known for his role as Viscount Tewksbury in the movie «Enola Holmes 2».
Netflix expects success from «The Chronicles of Narnia», as the budget of «The Wizard’s Nephew» could already exceed $200 million. And according to some sources, the streamer is planning up to eight films based on «Narnia». Director Greta Gerwig signs a contract for two films. It’s not a fact yet, but everything indicates that she will start with the prequel.
The first movie is expected to start filming in 2025 in the UK. Probably, the premiere is scheduled for November 2026. Moreover, the first two weeks of «The Wizard’s Nephew» will be shown exclusively in IMAX format before the movie appears on Netflix.
