The episodic character «Deadpool and Wolverine» broke the record for the longest career in Marvel

The unexpected appearance of Wesley Snipes in the movie «Deadpool and Wolverine» allowed the actor to set two records in the Marvel universe at once.

The 61-year-old actor once again played Eric Brooks, known as Blade — a half-vampire who hunts vampires. This return came 25 years and 340 days after his first appearance in the movie «Blade» in 1998. Thus, Snipes surpassed Hugh Jackman’s achievement, becoming the record holder for the longest career as a Marvel character in a movie.

Snipes also set a record for the longest gap between appearances in a Marvel movie. The last time he played Blade was 19 years and 231 days ago in «Blade: Trinity» in 2004. This record surpassed the achievement of Alfred Molina, who returned to the role of Dr. Octopus 17 years later.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Snipes said who had been having «very interesting conversations» about Blade’s return for two decades, but none of the plans came to fruition. The situation changed when he received a call from Ryan Reynolds.

«When you get a call from Ryan Reynolds after 20 years, you think: “Okay, I have to take this call. Let’s see what it’s about,'” the actor said.

Snipes trained intensely for about a month to prepare his body for the role of Blade. He didn’t know how many fight scenes he would have to shoot, but in the end, it turned out to be fewer than he expected.

In the movie, Blade teams up with Deadpool and Wolverine, as well as three other Marvel superheroes (Elektra, Gambit and X-23) to fight Cassandra Nova (played by Emma Corrin) and her horde of mutants.

This is not the first collaboration between Snipes and Reynolds. Reynolds, 27, played vampire hunter Hannibal King in the movie «Blade: Trinity». Snipes noted that Reynolds’ humor seemed a little over the top at the time, but now he appreciates his talent and enjoyed working with him.

As a reminder, «Deadpool and Wolverine» debuted with a box office of $440 million — is a world record for an R-rated movie.
