It seems that HBO has large-scale plans for George Martin’s creations — in addition to the sequel «Dragonsong», the company plans to make an additional spinoff» about the Targaryens, while the story «Knight of the Seven Kingdoms» is planned to be fit into three seasons.
The House of the Dragon will finally «fight»
The prequel «Game of Thrones», centered on the confrontation between the green and black Targaryens, faced a flood of criticism with the release of the second season: i not only from the author of the source material, George Martinbut also from longtime fans of his work who did not see the long-awaited sea battle in the finale.
The third season, according to HBO’s head of drama series and movies Francesca Orci (via Deadline) will fix this annoying mistake right from the first episodes:
«The audience is in for a big surprise at the start of the season, which will begin with an exciting battle».
For various reasons, but also because of strikes by actors and screenwriters, the second season of «House of the Dragon» was shortened from 10 to 8 episodes, and this contributed to the fact that the battle was moved to the third season.
«But it was worth the wait,» Orsi says. «I was on the set and saw everything with my own eyes. I’m very glad we waited because the scenes turned out better than ever, and I don’t think we had enough time to recreate it all at the time».
Orci added that the recreation of the battle was greatly helped by producer Kevin de la Noye, who worked on «Titanic» and had extensive experience with large-scale scenes.
The third season of Dragons’ Den has no official release date yet, but given the ongoing filming, we can assume late 2026.
Three seasons for «Knight of the Seven Kingdoms»
The series «The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms» is based on a series of novels by George Martin «The Tales of Dunk and Egg», and its action will take place a century before the events of «Game of Thrones». Interestingly, the writer himself, unlike the previous prequel, praised the film adaptation, calling it «worthy of an intelligent person»and also praised the cast (Peter Claffey and Dexter Sohn Ansel played the main roles).
The first season will consist of only six episodes, but it has a chance to be continued: according to Orci, HBO is considering filming the second and third seasons back-to-back.
«You will be impressed by the actors who played Dunk and Egg. A kind of brotherhood, or even a fatherly relationship,» she said. «So much so that we are already planning how to divide it into three seasons. This is not an official announcement, but the idea looks interesting. We’re looking at it as a complete work, with a second and third season, because there are three novellas».
«The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms» will debut «later this year» (in the fall or December).
New Targaryen spinoff
Orci also noted that HBO has other «Game of Thrones» spinoff projects in the works that still «continue the Targaryen line».
«There are a number of other ancillary products. We can’t guarantee that they will work out exactly, but we have a very large budget for it».
We can assume that this is a series, which was scripted by Matson Tomlin («Batman»). This story will take place about 130 years before most of the events of «House of the Dragon», that is, almost 300 years before the events of the original «Game of Thrones» series, and will tell the story of the bloody and brutal conquest of Westeros by Aegon «the Conqueror» Targaryen.
