Yesterday, NVIDIA RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 graphics cards are now on sale and almost immediately disappeared. This is used by dealers with outrageous prices — some people are trying to prevent them.
The website IGN reports that immediately after the launch, the RTX 5090 was sold for over $6000, and now the price achieved peak at $9000 — 350% more than the recommended price of $1999.
But the gaming community doesn’t seem to want to put up with it. Currently, eBay is full of fake ads that actually sell images of the RTX 5090, not the card itself. They are not made by fraudsters, but by users who want to fool the reseller bots and write about it in the descriptions. Here’s a review of one of the offers (now deleted):
«Bots and scalpers welcome, do not buy if you are human, you will get a 5090 framed photo, you will not get a 5090. Photo resolution [sic] 8 inches by 8 inches, I have a frame from Target. DO NOT BUY IF YOU ARE A» HUMAN.
Another announcement, which is still active, offers a «video card» for $2457, but there is a nuance: «Geforce RTX 5090 (read description) Image only – not the real product». The detailed description states that there will be no refund for an image that is not the RTX 5090 itself.
Now, more than ever, you need to be careful about video card offers, both fraudulent and similar «well-wishers». The best solution is to wait for the shortage to end, which is largely artificial.
