The prequel «The Hunger Games» about Mockingjay got the first teaser — with a big spoiler for the 50th Panem competition

Suzanne Collins’ latest book, Catching Fire: Mockingjay, sold 1.5 million copies in one week, but the most interesting news is that its film adaptation is moving at a similarly fast pace.

The article contains spoilers for the book «Sunrise on the Harvest» and its upcoming film adaptation.

At CinemaCon, we were offered the first teaser of the prequel with the official logo of the upcoming film, which gives little to those who have not read the book, but actually makes a lot of sense.

«Sunrise to Harvest», as you know, will focus on the story of Haymitch AbernathyKatniss’s mentor, played by Woody Harrelson in the original trilogy, and his participation in the 50th anniversary Hunger Games in Panem. The teaser shows a bowl of molten gold that turns into a volcano spewing lava as the camera zooms in ComicbookThis place is the central arena of the deadly competition. At the start of the games, Gaimitch notices that the arena has two sides, a mountain and a dense forest, and immediately chooses the second, thus saving his life. The mountain, which most of the tribunes went to, is actually a volcano and a death trap set by the game’s founders to destroy entire groups of participants at once.

Director Francis Lawrence and screenwriter Billy Ray, who worked on the trilogy, are involved in the prequel. Currently, casting is underway, including the search for an actor for the young version of Gameitch, while filming planned for July. «The Hunger Games: Catching Fire» will be released in theaters on November 29, 2026.

The previous prequel, titled «The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes»dedicated to the tenth Hunger Games and starring Tom Blythe and Rachel Zegler, was released in 2023 and earned $348 million, which can be considered a decent result for a film with a budget of $100 million. In total, the franchise has grossed over $3.3 billion, while the 2013 film «On Fire» remains the richest in the series with a box office of over $865 million.
