Sapkowski’s books are the best compass for developers.

Game director Sebastian Kalemba and executive producer Malgorzata Mitrega spoke about The Witcher 4’s creative independence from the popular Netflix series. The developers shared the details in an interview with Games.ch.

«Franchises usually operate in such a way that there is a certain synergy between different media. It always works that way. In every IP that you see, there is always this synergy that helps the franchise to attract, say, for example, newcomers — but I don’t think we rely on it in any way»,” explains Kalemba.

«The narrative that we create and the plan of our project — is always our original thing», — Mitreha notes. «Of course, we always pay a lot of attention to the lore and take inspiration from Andrzej Sapkowski’s books [«The Witcher»], but it’s mostly what we want to tell the world».

It’s worth noting that CD Projekt Red positioning The Witcher 4 as «the most exciting and ambitious open-world game» in the series.

To recap, The first trailer for The Witcher 4 was recently shown at the Game Awards 2024 (He even received Ukrainian dubbing). The main character of the game will be Ciri, but the developers Geralt was not forgotten either.
