If your printer starts spitting out gibberish in a language you don’t understand, don’t rush to throw it away (unless you’ve already done so within the last 10 years) — the error may be caused by Microsoft’s latest Windows 11 23H2 update.
Update KB5050092 was released in preview at the end of January and caused more than one problem — besides disruptions in the with some Citrix software, users complain and to the fact that their printers suddenly «spoke» in other languages, began to produce arbitrary text and incomprehensible symbols.
According to Microsoft, the bug can affect USB-connected dual-mode printers that support both USB printing and IPP (Internet Printing Protocol) over USB, and the text «POST /ipp/print HTTP/1.1» is usually issued at the beginning of printed emails, followed by other IPP-related headers. It is noted that printing problems occur more often when the printer is turned on or reconnected after being turned off.
Microsoft adds that the printing issue can be resolved by Known Issue Rollback (KIR) — a Windows feature that helps you reverse erroneous non-security updates delivered through Windows Update — and says the fix will be automatically deployed with a future OS update.
