The fact that Henry Cavill auditioned for the role of 007 has long been well known — but now we can see with our own eyes how it happened thanks to a video that was recently published on the Internet.
In the video, you can see a fairly young Cavill (he was about 20 years old at the time) reading scenes from «Goldeneye», originally spoken by Pierce Brosnan. The actor also delivers several classic lines, including ordering a vodka and martini — which should be «shaken, not stirred».
The full video lasts seven minutes, and some scenes are repeated several times.
It should be noted that this is the same audition that «Casino Royale» director Martin Campbell called «amazing» in an interview.
«He looked great at the audition», — said Campbell. «His acting was amazing. If it hadn’t been for Daniel, Henry would have been a great Bond. He was in great physical shape… very handsome, chiseled. But he just looked too young at the time».
Eventually, the role went to Daniel Craig, who retained it for the next five films, while fans continued to promote Cavill as the new 007 agent. It got to the point where last year, the following videos were uploaded to the webfake trailer of the new Bond movie with the actor. He himself, by the way, has recently stated that he is too old for the role, but he cautiously added: «let’s see what the producers have in mind».
As for the producers’ plans, they have already become public knowledge: the role of looking for a man 30+, and possibly black (he will play the character for the next 10 years). In March, it was rumored that the agent would be played by Aaron Taylor Johnson from «Craven the Hunter», and Pierce Brosnan allegedly praised this choice; while Idris Elba was considered the main candidate for the black character variation.
As for Cavill, after saying goodbye to the roles of the Witcher and Superman, he is not out of work: the actor has deals to star in remake of «Highlander» with Chad Stahelski and film adaptations «Voltron» і Warhammer.
It should be noted that in addition to Cavill’s samples on the same channel there are audition videos for the role of Bond from «Boys» star Anthony Starr (Homelander), Rupert Friend («Pride and Prejudice») and Sam Worthington (Jake Sully in «Avatar»).
