TikTok and Donald Trump announce the resumption of the service in the United States

Newly elected US President Donald Trump has announced the return of TikTok to the country. The social network itself made the corresponding statement.

On Sunday, Trump said on Truth Social (unavailable in Ukraine) that he would order the postponement of the implementation of the law that bans TikTok in the US. For a final resolution of this issue, the president suggests the US acquiring 50% ownership of the service, a scheme he wants to apply to other companies in a similar situation.

“On Monday, I will issue an executive order to extend the period of time until the enforcement of the law’s ban so that we can negotiate a deal to protect our national security. The order will also confirm that no company that prevented the disappearance of TikTok before my order bears responsibility,” — wrote Donald Trump.

During a rally in Washington on the eve of his inauguration, Trump said: “Today TikTok is back”. The social network resumed operation just a few hours after the president’s post online.

“We won on TikTok, and Republicans never won the youth vote. So, I like TikTok,” — stated the US president at the rally.

The social network also confirms the resumption of work. In a post on X, the official TikTok Policy account thanked Trump for his “decisive stance”.

“Under the agreement with our service providers, TikTok is in the process of restoring service. We thank President Trump for providing the necessary clarity and assuring our service providers that they will not face penalties, allowing TikTok to serve over 170 million Americans and enabling more than 7 million small businesses to thrive. This is a decisive stance in support of the First Amendment and against arbitrary censorship. We will work with President Trump on a long-term solution that will allow TikTok to remain in the United States.”

As a reminder, the US Supreme Court earlier upheld the provision banning TikTok from January 19th. The law passed last year requires the service to be sold by the Chinese company ByteDance or banned otherwise. It arose due to concerns from the Biden administration and the US Congress about national security risks.
