After a short teaser Neon has released a full trailer for «The Life of Chuck» —, a sci-fi drama in which Tom Hiddleston lives his life backwards.
The film adapts the story of the same name from Stephen King’s collection «If the Blood Runs», which tells three different stories about the life of Chuck Krantz (Hiddleston) in reverse: the plot begins with the protagonist’s death at 39 from brain cancer and ends with his childhood in a haunted house.
The film was directed by Mike Flanagan, known for his work on such horror films as «Oculus», «Silence», «Suspicion» and «Gerald’s Game» (also an adaptation of King) — he also wrote the screenplay (in collaboration with King) and edited the film. In addition to Hiddleston, the cast includes Benjamin Pajak, Jacob Tremblay and Cody Flanagan (playing different versions of Chuck), Chiwetel Ejiofor and Karen Gillan (as the divorced couple Marty and Felicia), Mark Hamill and Mia Sara (as Chuck’s grandparents Alby and Sarah), and Nick Offerman as the narrator.
«The Life of Chuck» debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it won the «Audience Choice» Grand Prize. Interestingly, twelve of the last fourteen TIFF winners have been nominated for an Oscar in the Best Picture category, and four of them have won the top prize. Critics have also praised the film, identifying it as «the masterpiece of the King-Flanagan duo».
The film will be released in theaters on June 6.
