The author of the Just a Chill Guy meme, Philip Banks, created it in 2023. Chill Guy gained popularity after the meme appeared on TikTok under the hashtag #ChillVibes. Then, in November this year, El Salvadoran President Nayib Buchele and billionaire Elon Musk shared his work on their pages.
Since mid-November 2024, the capitalization of CHILLGUY memo reached $500 million in just a few days, although it started with $10 million. Currently, the coin’s value is $0.39, and its capitalization is — $399 million.
Chill Guy author Phillip Banks that plans to file a complaint due to the commercial use of his work without permission, in particular in the form of cryptocurrency tokens and merchandise. After Banks’ statement, the token’s value dropped by 54%, but quickly recovered. At the same time, the community created a donation wallet in favor of the artist, raising about $300 thousand, but Banks has not yet shown interest in these funds.
