Apple is looking for new ways to increase the appeal of Vision Pro through a partnership with Sony.
Apple has only sold 500,000 devices Vision Pro since its launch in February this year. To improve the situation, the tech giant is planning to cooperate with Sony to support VR gaming controllers.
Mark Gurman from Bloomberg reported about the negotiations between the companies, which have been going on for several months. PlayStation VR2 controllers will become additional accessories for Vision Pro users.
Vision Pro already supports PlayStation 5 and Xbox controllers, but they are not optimized for augmented reality. Instead, PlayStation VR2 controllers are specially designed for virtual reality and better fit the concept of the device.
To implement this initiative, Sony will have to change its distribution strategy, as PlayStation VR2 controllers are currently sold only with a headset. Apple will be able to sell them through its own online and retail stores.
Mark Gurman notes that PlayStation VR2 controllers will improve not only the gaming experience but also productivity and media content editing in visionOS.
