Actor Chris Evans, best known to Marvel fans as Steve Rogers (Captain America), will join Robert Downey Jr. in the movie “Avengers: Doomsday.”
It’s currently unclear who Evans will play, as in “Avengers: Endgame,” his original character aged and handed over the Captain’s shield to Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), and the actor later appeared in the film “Deadpool and Wolverine” as Johnny Storm (Human Torch)—a character he played in the “Fantastic Four” movies of 2005 and 2007.
Plot details are kept under wraps, but it’s clear things will revolve around Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.)—a character who was the main villain in the “Fantastic Four.”
Remember that Marvel is developing two new Avengers movies—”Doomsday” and “Secret Wars,” which will conclude the saga of the multiverse for the MCU and will be closely connected. Both will be directed by the Russo brothers, with Stephen McFeely, who worked on “Avengers: Endgame” and “Infinity War,” as the screenwriter.
Rumors suggest that production of “Avengers: Doomsday” is set to begin in March 2025 and will last until August—six months of shooting. Reports indicate that Downey Jr. will earn over $100 million for the two films (+box office bonuses), and the Russos will get $40 million per movie.
With Evans’ return, publications like Variety and Deadline speculate on the return of other original MCU actors along with the new “Fantastic Four” and some “Thunderbolts” characters. Previously, insiders wrote that Marvel was considering bringing Gwyneth Paltrow back as Pepper Potts (it might seem like just rumors or speculation—however, remember that some previous MCU ideas laid out by journalists did come true); likewise, Josh Brolin stated that he is ready to reprise the role of Thanos in the new “Avengers” if Marvel proposes “the right story.”
The premiere of “Avengers: Doomsday” is scheduled for May 1, 2026, and “Secret Wars” is expected a year later, on May 7, 2027.
