Garmin has expanded its range of devices by introducing the Descent G2 dive computer with smartwatch functions.

The new Garmin Descent G2 is a rugged watch-style dive computer that adds a 1.2-inch AMOLED display to the highly successful first version. This makes it much easier to read underwater and helps display many of the new smartwatch features in full.

Descent G2’s diving capabilities are quite interesting. It has several dive modes with tracking for all types of diving, including single and multi-component gas diving, closed circuit breathing, and gage mode. There’s a 3-axis dive compass and a big numbers mode that shows you only the most important data. There are also freediving functions including dynamic apnea mode, apnea alert, variometer and speed chart. Out of the water, it also functions as a great smartwatch.

The new product also has a wide range of Garmin health and wellness features. It can provide round-the-clock heart rate monitoring, step counting, calories burned, sleep tracking, heart rate variability, stress, hydration, breathing and blood oxygen levels. There’s also recovery time, daily suggested workouts, and more.

There’s also training analysis and dozens of pre-loaded sports apps for running, swimming, cycling, strength training, and more. It works with both iPhone and Android, and has support for multi-GNSS and GPS, Garmin Pay.

The device boasts 10 days of battery life (4 when using the Always-On Display mode) and water resistance up to 100 meters for diving. The silicone strap is designed to provide comfortable wearing. The display is protected by a sapphire crystal, and the case and bezel are made of reinforced plastic caught from ocean debris.

The new Garmin Descent G2 is available in two colors for $699.
