
On December 19, Ukraine’s state registries were subjected to a large-scale cyberattack, which is being linked to Russian actions. As a result of the attack, the Unified and State Registries managed by the Ministry of Justice were temporarily suspended. About said Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olha Stefanishyna.
She noted that the team of the Ministry of Justice and specialists from other services are actively working to eliminate the consequences of the cyberattack and restore the systems.
«It is already clear that the attack was carried out by Russians to disrupt the operation of the state’s critical infrastructure. Our specialists are working in an intensified mode to restore access to the registers step by step», — said Olga Stefanishyna.
Affected state registries and terms of restoration
According to the official, experts will first try to restore the following registers:
- The State Register of Civil Status Acts.
- The Unified State Register of Legal Entities and Individual Entrepreneurs.
- The State Register of Rights to Real Estate and Their Encumbrances.
The initial recovery is expected to take up to 2 weeks.
According to preliminary information, only state registries were affected by the attack. Other state resources were not affected, and there is currently no threat to their functioning.
Stefanishyna also noted that the enemy is trying to use this attack to conduct information operations to sow panic among the population of Ukraine and the international community.
