The Paris Court of Appeal recently blocked four porn sites in France for not having a proper age verification system. The two non-profit organizations for the protection of children on the Internet that initiated the blocking initially considered this a great victory. But in one case, it turned into an embarrassment.
By data l’Informé, the organizations tried to block the websites Iciporno, Mrsexe, Tukif and xHamster. In their complaints, they provided the websites’ web addresses, but for xHamster they specified «fr.xhamster.com» — the site’s French subdomain.
As a result, the court ordered the blocking of «fr.xhamster.com», including the prefix «fr». Internet providers complied with the order and blocked xHamster at the DNS level, but only with the «fr» prefix. Therefore, xHamster is still available in France — until the regulator Arcom finds a way to close this inconvenient loophole.
French defenders will have to go to court again to correct the mistake and block the main domain of the porn site.
