Android 15 is coming to Pixels: private space, smartphone theft protection, better app experience, and more

Google has started rolling out the new version of Android 15 to Pixel devices. This OS offers new privacy features, security tools, and enhancements for complex devices and tablets.

In fact, Android 15 was first launched last month through the Android Open Source project, and Vivo smartphone owners received the update even before Pixel device buyers. Only now has Google announced that Android 15 is finally coming to Pixels, along with a number of Pixel features.

New features of Android 15

One of the main innovations in Android 15 is the ability to create «private space» for apps that you may want to hide from other people who take over your phone. Google gives examples of social apps, dating apps, or banking apps. According to Google, apps that you put in your private space will not appear in your recently used apps, notifications, or settings. To access the space, you will have to go through additional authentication. If necessary, you can even «hide the existence of a private space from view on your phone».

On foldable devices and tablets, Android 15 will allow users to pin and unpin the taskbar so they can access their apps more easily. And if you have certain apps that you often use together, you can customize a pair of apps and access that pair with a single icon.

At the same time, Google is opening up additional camera options for third-party apps, such as more detailed control over the flash. You will also be able to log in to apps that use access keys with one touch. The operator’s messaging apps will now be able to support satellite messaging when you are out of range of cellular and Wi-Fi networks.

Many devices running Android — not just Android 15 — will receive Theft Detection Lock. It will allow your phone to automatically lock if it detects (using AI) that it has been stolen. Google is also adding a Remote Lock feature that allows you to lock your phone with another Android phone, your phone number, and «a simple security check». The company says that «most» devices on Android 10 and later will get these features, and some users already have them.

Google is also starting to roll out a new October feature release for Pixel. It includes Night Sight for Instagram to improve low-light photos, more controls for Audio Magic Eraser. In «the next few weeks» Google will also add a feature that will allow you to move media from your Pixel tablet to your Pixel phone while holding the devices next to each other.
