A little earlier than usual (in February instead of July, as in the case of its predecessor), Asus has unveiled its new flagship smartphone Zenfone 12 Ultra.
The main change of this generation is the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, which promises 45% higher CPU performance, 40% faster GPU, and 40% increase in NPU performance. The processor is complemented by up to 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 512 GB of built-in UFS 4.0 storage.
The high NPU performance comes in handy as the Asus Zenfone 12 Ultra comes with Meta Llama 3 8B AI model that runs on the device and is used for high-quality text summarization. AI Call Translator 2.0 also runs on the device and provides real-time voice translation for the standard «Phone» app as well as third-party messengers that support VoIP calls. The «Voice Recorder» app features AI Transcript 2.0 with multi-speaker identification, summarization, and translation. You can also summarize articles and documents.

The camera has undergone another significant update. It now uses a Sony Lytia-700 sensor instead of the IMX890 and a 6-axis hybrid stabilizer version 4. It can correct ±5° of movement, which is 66% better than the version 3 stabilizer in Zenfone 11 Ultra. The 32-megapixel telephoto camera has optical stabilization and offers 3x optical zoom (10-30x HyperClarity zoom). There is also an ultra-wide-angle camera with a 120° viewing angle. The front camera is based on a 32-megapixel RGBW sensor.
The Asus Zenfone 12 Ultra smartphone has a 6.78-inch OLED display (Samsung E6). This is an LTPO panel with a variable refresh rate of 1-120 Hz and a 144 Hz option available for supported games. It reaches a peak brightness of 2500 nits and is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

The phone is equipped with a dual 5500 mAh battery and supports 65W fast wired charging as well as 15W wireless charging. The wired option charges the battery from 0% to 100% in 39 minutes. Once fully charged, the battery promises up to 26 hours of use.
The speaker system includes stereo speakers with multiple magnets and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. The phone is equipped with Dirac Virtual for Headphones technology that works with both wired and wireless headphones. The device has an IP68 rating for protection against dust and water. In addition to two 5G-enabled SIM cards, eSIM support is also available.

The new Asus Zenfone 12 Ultra has already gone on sale in Europe for €1100. Sage Green, Ebony Black, and Sakura White colors are available to choose from.
