Harrison Ford will make his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2025 and will play Thaddeus «Thunderbolt» Ross in «Captain America: A Brave New World».
In a new interview, Ford told why he joined Marvel and criticized actors who refuse to appear in their films on principle (in fact, he called his colleagues fools):
«I understand the appeal of other films and those we made in the 80s and 90s. However, everything changes and transforms. We are fools if we sit around and miss the past and don’t participate in the new. I joined a new part of the business that really creates a good experience for the audience. I love it».
In recent years, Marvel has faced a growing stream of criticism — both from viewers and directly from colleagues in the film industry. Recently, four-time Oscar nominee Saoirse Ronan refused to cooperate with the studio, while director Martin Sorcese said that Marvel has little to do with cinema and is rather responsible for entertainment. Jamie Lee Curtis also criticized the studio, although she later retracted her words and apologized.
Like Ford, the actors who have already joined the movie universe, on the contrary, publicly defend it. Sebastian Stan, who has played Bucky Barnes since «The First Avenger», for example, stated that «movie without MCU — black hole» and advised critics to «shut up» without better suggestions; while Chris Hemsworth, known for his role as Thor, said he was annoyed by «unjustified criticism» of Marvel (especially from colleagues) and emphasized that «billions who watch the studio’s films can’t be wrong»
Movie «Captain America: Brave New World» will debut in February 2025. Anthony Mackie takes on the lead role, while the rest of the cast, in addition to Ford, includes Giancarlo Esposito, Liv Tyler, Tim Blake Nelson and others.
After «Captain America» in May 2025, Marvel will release «Thunderbirds»and in July — a new «Fantastic Four». Earlier, the studio said it had revised its strategy and will release «only 2-3 films per year»by focusing on quality rather than quantity.
