Ever wondered why actors appear in all those weird movies? Jim Carrey honestly explained why he needed “Sonic the Hedgehog 3.”
The irony is that in April 2022, the actor mentioned he was retiring after “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” and would only act in movies if the script was “written by angels in golden ink.” “Sonic the Hedgehog” is probably a decent franchise, but it seems to fall short of that definition.
Jim Carrey first played Dr. Robotnik in the 2020 movie “Sonic the Hedgehog.” It was his first major role in a studio film since the sequel to “Dumb and Dumber” in 2014.
“Well, I’m retiring. Yeah, probably. I’m quite serious. If angels bring me a script written in golden ink that tells me it will be really important for people, I might continue, but I’m taking a break. … I really enjoy my quiet life, I really enjoy putting paint on canvas, I truly love my spiritual life, and I feel that — and this is something you’ll never hear from another celebrity as long as time exists — I have [enough] of everything. I’ve done enough. I have enough,” Carrey told Access Hollywood during the press tour for “Sonic 2.”
The “retirement” and the fulfillment from a rich self-sufficient spiritual life only lasted two years. This month, Carrey returned to shooting—in “Sonic the Hedgehog 3.” When asked by journalists from the Associated Press how it happened, Carrey replied without lofty adjectives.

“In a previous interview, you said you would return if you received a script written in golden ink, written by angels,” — AP.
“That was hyperbole, yeah. I returned to this universe because I have to play a genius, which is a bit of a stretch. You know, I bought a lot of stuff, and I need the money, frankly,” Carrey replied with a laugh.
Although “Sonic” was Carrey’s first major studio film in six years, he starred in indie films, headlined the comedy series “Kidding” on Showtime, which was canceled after two seasons. Carrey also guest-starred on “Saturday Night Live,” where he played Joe Biden. “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” will be in Ukrainian theaters starting December 26.
