Live Switcher Mobile: Canon releases app for multi-camera streams… that doesn’t work with Canon cameras

Canon has launched a new streaming app, Live Switcher Mobile. It supports up to three camera angles that can be switched between with a few taps. The app is available on iOS and currently only works with Apple devices. Surprisingly, it does not support Canon’s own cameras.

Live Switcher Mobile allows users to specify how many seconds the viewpoint stays on a particular camera before automatically switching to another. The app also supports on-screen captions and real-time comments. However, the latter feature only works if you broadcast on YouTube and Twitch. Although with basic capabilities, the app can also broadcast to other RTMP-enabled platforms such as Facebook, X, Instagram, and even LinkedIn, among others.

Although Live Switcher Mobile is free, the unpaid version only supports resolutions up to 720p. There will also be ads and watermarks on the screen. An $18 per month subscription will increase the maximum resolution to 1080p and remove ads and watermarks. Additionally, the subscription unlocks image overlay, zoom, and picture-in-picture movement.

Live Switcher Mobile, compared to free apps such as OBS Studio and Streamlabs, has fewer features, which means Canon has a lot of work ahead of it to make the paid plan worth the cost. The developer promises that support for Canon cameras will be coming soon.
