
Starting today, Netflix is broadcasting the fantasy adventure Family Pack, which is somewhat reminiscent of the films from the «Jumanji» series.
The official synopsis says that the film «Family Pack» tells the story of a family of 6 people who find themselves in the Middle Ages through a mysterious card game and face dangerous werewolves every night.
The plot of the movie based on a card game «The Werewolves of Miller’s Hollow»created by Frenchmen Philippe de Pallier and Hervé Marley in 2001 (which, in turn, is based on the more well-known «Mafia»).
The film was directed by François Ouzan («Lupin»), with Jean Reno, Frank Dubosc, Suzanne Clement, Jonathan Lambert, Gregory Fitoussi, Bruno Guerrier and others playing the main roles.
Judging by the first reviews, critics had a mixed reception to the film, noting both «light comedic moments» and «somewhat exhausting action»:
Phil Goud, The Guardian: «A great time travel comedy that reminds us of the French classic —The Aliens — also with Jean Reno. This time, it goes in the opposite direction. Family Pack — is a perfectly accurate adaptation of the board game that becomes a well-packaged, undemanding entertainment».
Calum Marsh, The New York Times: «The beauty of the game lies in the betrayal: friends lie and stab each other in the back, and that’s great. However, the movie has little interest in this mechanic. Instead, Ouzan focuses on gentle comedy and grueling action. The actors, including Franck Dubosc and Jean Reno, spend a lot of time joking around until the overly active plot gives them superpowers. The acting itself is very good. I’m not sure the movie understands why the».
