Netflix has released the main trailer for the second season of “Squid Game,” which provides an in-depth look at new challenges for Player 456 and his “team.”
The protagonist, Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae), who emerged victorious from the previous contests, returns to the deadly arena—this time with the aim to take revenge on the game organizers and save those who recklessly decided to earn some money by joining the “Squid Game.”
Gi-hun’s plan is to destroy the game from within. His request to join the competition is promptly granted, and the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) mysteriously welcomes him with a “welcome back.”
Besides several vivid scenes featuring new games (and corresponding deaths), the trailer also shows a few shootouts. It appears that Gi-hun is not the only one hunting the organizers—at least the video showed us a police officer and the brother of the Front Man (Wi Ha-jun), who seemed to have died in the previous season.
From the previous teasers, it’s also clear that some games in the second season will be repeated, but all will have a new common rule: players can vote to end the competition after each contest and leave with the amount they have accumulated by that time (if the majority votes for it).
The first season of “Squid Game” debuted on Netflix in 2021, earning the title of the most-watched show on the streaming service (currently viewed for a total of 2.2 billion hours) and winning six Emmy Awards—with a victory for Lee as the lead actor in particular.
Earlier, the creators of the series announced that the story would conclude with the third season, for which they have already “finished editing the episodes”.
The second season of “Squid Game” is expected on Netflix on December 26th.
