Google is extending the Help me write feature to the web version of Gmail, allowing users to create or customize emails with the help of Gemini AI. Just like on mobile devices, users will be prompted to use the feature when opening a blank draft in Gmail.
Currently, Google Help me write is only available to users who subscribe to Google One AI Premium or have the Gemini for Workspace add-on. In addition to creating a draft of an email, Help me write can also provide suggestions on how to formalize, elaborate, or shorten the message.
Google has also added a shortcut to the polish option available in the Help me write toolkit that will appear on drafts with more than 12 words. In the web version of Gmail, users can click the shortcut or the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + H to quickly optimize an email.
On mobile devices, this option replaces the existing Refine my draft shortcut. Instead of scrolling to see options for improving, formalizing, detailing, or shortening an email, the app automatically refines the message when users swipe the polish shortcut. Users can then further customize the message with other editing tools powered by Google’s artificial intelligence.
Google has already begun a gradual rollout of these features.
