The first screening of «Nosferatu» by Robert Eggers took place in New York at the end of last week. The audience was extremely pleased.
In Eggers’ fourth feature film, a vampire played by Bill Skashgård is obsessed with a woman named Ellen Hatter, played by Lily-Rose Depp. Nicholas Hoult plays her husband Thomas, who is sent to Transylvania. Other actors include Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrine, Willem Dafoe and Ralph Ineson.
The film is a creative remake of «Nosferatu. Symphony of Terror» (1922) by Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau. The director wanted to adapt the novel «Dracula» by Bram Stoker, but the studio did not have the rights. Murnau renamed the characters and rewrote the script. It seems that Robert Eggers at least did not disgrace the classic, the reviews speak for themselves:
