Pat Helsinger urged people to «pray and fast» for Intel and its 100,000 employees

Pat Gelsinger, who was fired as the CEO of Intel a week ago, has called on people to support the company and its employees by turning to “higher powers”.

Yes, in a post on X, Gelsinger invited everyone this week to join him in “prayer and fasting” for the 100,000 Intel employees who are currently going through a tough time.

Gelsinger has been leading Intel since 2021, but his plans for the company’s development can hardly be called successful—just this year, the semiconductor giant has lost over 50% of its value and laid off 15% of its staff to cut costs by $10 billion.

According to media reports, the board of directors “lost trust” in Gelsinger, with the conflict escalating last week when Pat presented plans to regain market share and reduce the gap between Intel and Nvidia. At that time, he was offered to resign or be forcibly dismissed.

“Leading Intel has been an honor,” Gelsinger noted in his resignation statement. “Today, it’s bitter for me, as this company has been my life for most of my career”.

The company is currently looking for a new leader, and Gelsinger’s duties have been temporarily divided between David Zinsner and Michelle Johnston Holthaus.

Last month, Intel reached an agreement with the US on receiving a grant of $7.86 billion under the CHIPS and Science Act program. Previously, the company had expressed disappointment with this initiative, stating that it had received no assistance over two years.

Meanwhile, Qualcomm, according to rumors, “lost interest” in fully acquiring Intel due to the company’s huge debts, but is contemplating purchasing a separate business (likely the semiconductor manufacturing division). Rumors suggest Apple and Samsung are also considering buying Intel.
