Sony is working to get rid of problems with charging PlayStation controllers — the company has filed a patent for a new technology.
The controllers will have special photovoltaic cells that collect energy from light to charge the battery. This means that the devices will be able to charge without wires or the need to change batteries. У patent it is indicated that the light source can be not only the sun but also the usual lighting in the room. Moreover, the system will work even during the game — the controller is designed so that the player’s hands do not cover the solar panels.
In other words, Sony sees this as a solution to one of the most common problems: a dead gamepad at the most inconvenient moment. Players are often forced to interrupt the game to connect the charging cable or change batteries. But if such a controller is launched on the market, the device will always be ready to play if there is at least minimal lighting nearby.

When to expect a new technology?
As with any patent, this development does not guarantee that it will make it to the final product. Sony can simply protect the idea. However, if the company actually implements it in the next generation of consoles, then the PlayStation 6 may receive controllers with self-recharging. And also, for now, Apple and Sony are working on support for PlayStation VR2 controllers for Vision Pro, says the insider.
The question remains: will this technology be able to provide enough power for a full game, especially in dark rooms? But if Sony finds a way to compensate for this, gamers can forget about wires and charging pauses in the future. Time will show how it will be in reality.
