Ridley Scott is working on a new movie «Alien» for 20th Century

In an interview, Ridley Scott said that he is working on a new film «Alien». The director also confirmed other projects in the works. The film was made possible thanks to success «Stranger: Romulus».

Scott also said The Holliwood Reporter, that he is developing the film «Battle for Britain», based on a script by Joe Penhall, as well as the previously announced thriller «Bomb» by Kevin McMullin. The director did not specify what kind of film «Alien» is in question and what role he has in working on it, but it is probably a project with a tentative title «Alien: Romulus 2» Fede Alvarez.

The first «Alien» movie from 1979 was also released at 20th Century, which is now owned by Disney. Since then, the franchise hasn’t left the studio, and Scott has also directed many other films for it:

«I think I’ve made 13 films for Fox, and that’s probably the most a director has ever made for a studio. It’s a little bit like opening a restaurant. When they pay your overhead, you better eat there every night. I eat at the Fox table every night. I think that’s why I was valuable to them. You win some, you lose some, but overall, they were rewarded by what I do».

One of the sore points for Ridley Scott and his team is the lack of ownership of the «Alien» and «Running on the blade»for which the director blames some of the previous management of his company. Scott Free Productions has to win back its place on the team every time it comes to a sequel or prequel.

«I had to shut them down, like Spielberg did with «Jurassic World» and everything he does, and James Cameron did with what he has. I resurrected the dead «Alien» with «Prometheus» and «Alien: Covenant» and we should have rejoined the ownership right then, but we didn’t because someone was careless».

In the movie «Alien: Romulus» Scott found his role rewarding was a guiding force for director Fede Alvarez. The latter said in an interview that Scott suggested cutting an early version of the movie, which made him «break through the wall». That’s when Alvarez realized that Scott’s ideas were right and brought them to life.

«I can sniff out something that is too intellectual or not intellectual enough. Knowing the «edges of» — is partly my job. Also, knowing when something is too long or too complicated. Here I am acting as a producer — actually, as an editor. In that respect, I always respect the director, and if you respect them, they will listen to you», — says Ridley Scott.

Scott’s next project will be a biopic of the popular 1970s band the Bee Gees, which will begin filming early next year for Paramount. It will probably feature Paul Meskal, who spoke about his collaboration with the director in several new films.
