Harrison Ford in an interview The Wall Street Journal shared his reaction to the failure of the movie «Indiana Jones 5» at the box office, and also talked about the details of the deal with Marvel for the movie «Captain America: Brave New World».
In «Indiana Jones 5», Ford returned to the role of the iconic archaeologist for the fifth time, but the film did not bring success to Disney — The studio lost at least $130 million on it. However, the actor does not seem to be too upset by this situation:
«Shit happens», — Ford says. «But I felt like it was a story I had to tell. I wanted to give Indy another chance, dust off his ass and put him back out there, stripped of some of his powers, and see what happens. I’m happy I did this movie».
In another interview, the director of the fifth Indiana Jones movie, James Megold, said that the failure was caused by «old age» the main actor.
«You have a great actor who is over 80. And you’re making a movie about him. But the audience doesn’t want to see the character at that age,» says Mangold. «The question is, would the audience be happy if we started over with a new character?».
Ford’s next work — is a Marvel superhero movie «Captain America: Brave New World», where the actor appears as Thaddeus «Thunderbolt» Ross (both the President of the United States and the Red Hulk).
Harrison himself noted that he agreed to the project without reviewing the script:
«Why not? I’ve seen enough Marvel movies with actors I admired and had a good time», — Ford says and jokes: «I didn’t really know I’d turn into the Red Hulk at the end. Well, it’s like life. You accomplish the whole kit and caboodle until you’re down to the last page of instructions».
Earlier, Ford also stated that only «fools» refuse Marvel movies.
The new «Captain America», which will debut in theaters this month may indeed become the biggest box office hit for the actor, given the preliminary forecasts of market experts.
