Sony boss responsible for «Madame Web» and «Craven the Hunter» leaves the studio after 10 years

Palak Patel worked at Sony for 10 years, and in addition to overseeing films with Tom Holland, he also managed the “Venom” trilogy and other films featuring “supporting” characters from Spider-Man—specifically the unsuccessful “Kraven the Hunter”, “Madame Web”, and “Morbius”.

As THR writes, Patel will now “develop” projects for Prime Focus—a studio that released “Garfield in Cinema” for Sony and is currently producing “Animal Friends” and “Angry Birds in Cinema 3”.

It is noted that Prime Focus was looking for a leader who could “navigate well in the worlds of major studios”. Before Sony, Patel was the president of production and development at Roth Films, and was involved in films such as “Oz: The Great and Powerful”, “Snow White and the Huntsman”, and “Maleficent” (Maleficent).

Meanwhile, Sony is considering a complete reboot or possibly abandoning films with supporting characters from “Spider-Man” altogether and instead focusing on films with Tom Holland. Recently, spin-offs have brought little good to the studio—it all started with “Morbius” and ended just as disastrously with “Kraven the Hunter”. Against this background, only the “Venom” trilogy stood out, although the third film earned significantly less box office than the previous two, signaling a decline in interest in the series.

Regarding “Madame Web”, it also did not impress at the box office and even in the second weekend did not reach the level of the debut earnings of “Morbius”. Currently, the film has 12% from critics and 57% from the audience on Rotten Tomatoes, but the studio continues to claim that it is a “good movie” that was destroyed by journalists.
