Sony closes Firewalk Studios — developers Concord

Sony has decided to close Firewalk Studios, the developer of the multiplayer game Concord, which was shut down two weeks after its launch. This was announced by the head of PlayStation Studios Hermann Hulst in a letter to the employees. Along with Firewalk, the mobile game studio Neon Koi will also close.

According to analysts, Concord sold less than 25 thousand copies. The game was released on August 23 on PS5 and PC, but Sony shut down its servers on September 6. On the Steam platform, the game’s online sales did not exceed 697 players at the same time — this is less than that of the failed The Lord of the Rings: Gollum.

«We spent a lot of time looking for alternative solutions. After careful analysis, the best option was to permanently close the game and the studio,» Hulst said. According to him, Sony will take Concord’s experience into account for the development of future projects with a permanent online service.

Along with Firewalk Studios, the mobile division of Neon Koi, which Sony acquired in 2022 under the name Savage Game Studios, will also cease operations. The studio was working on an unannounced AAA mobile game in the «action» genre. Despite the closure of the studio, Hulst emphasized that mobile games remain a priority for Sony.
