Speedtest by the National Commission for State Regulation of Energy: the regulator has launched people’s control over the Internet speed

NKEC and Ookla have launched a new tool – the QoS Tool – Speedtest. With its help, you can measure the speed of your Internet, as well as learn about other important connection parameters.

What does the QoS Tool – Speedtest from NKEK provide?

• Accurate results: You will receive reliable data on download and upload speeds, as well as network delays (ping and jitter). Test results are objective and not subject to external influence from service providers
• Direct data collection by the NCCI: the results of measurements made with this tool will be automatically transmitted to the NCCI to analyze the quality of Internet access services.
• Impact on the quality of the Internet: The NCCIR will use the data collected to monitor the quality of Internet services in Ukraine and influence providers to improve their service.
• Improving the quality of services: operators and providers will be able to analyze test results from their customers and take measures to improve the service.

To use the new QoS Tool Internet speed test service – Speedtest, you need to go to the relevant page of the NKEC website and press the «Start» button. We are promised that in a few seconds we will be able to get accurate data on the speed of the current Internet connection.

What to do with the results?

If your Internet speed is lower than the speed stated in your tariff plan, contact your provider. You can also share the data with other users and with the NCCC. The Commission will analyze the data to improve the regulatory framework in the field of electronic communications.

Personal experience

While preparing the material, I tried to use the new NKEK service on a PC. The Russian word «VIBRATION» in the test interface immediately caught my eye.

During the speed test, the test froze. In addition, after the test was completed, there were problems with communication for about a minute. Browser and messengers do not work.
