Philippa Boyens has revealed new details and cleared up misunderstandings about the continuation of the «The Lord of the Rings» movie franchise
Previously actor playing the role of Gandalf Ian McKellen said that Andy Serkis’ upcoming movie «The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum» will receive two parts. It turns out that the actor made a mistake. He meant that another new «Lord of the Rings» is in the works.
Screenwriter Philippa Boyens says she is working on both films, and that they are will definitely have characters from the original trilogy:
«I can tell you for sure that [«The Hunt for Gollum»] is not two movies! It was a real misunderstanding that happened because we started working on two different «live-action» films conceptually. The first one is — «Gollum’s Hunt», the second one is yet to be confirmed».
As for McKellen’s mistake, the screenwriter adds:
«We are playing with several ideas, but most of them include Gandalf. So Gandalf will potentially return in two movies».
Boens told us a little bit about Andy Serkis’ film:
«This is a pretty intense story that takes place after Bilbo’s birthday celebration and before the Mines of Moria. This is a special part of the incredible untold story told through the perspective of this incredible creature».
Philippa Boens also did not ignore the anime «The Lord of the Rings» — two of them are also planned:
«We have an absolute kick for a second movie [besides «The War of the Roguers»], which would be just incredible as an anime. But let’s see if there’s any appetite for it».
It has also recently become known that Andy Serkis is planning another, completely different project. The movie will be created with the help of AI. By the way, according to in words Serkis, characters «The Lord of the Rings» will also be rejuvenated using AI.
